Small Works Exhibits

Trish Stevenson / Comment on this

It seems that miniature and small works exhibits are increasingly popular, especially during the holiday season -  and for good reason. Smaller works are a great way to start or add to a personal collection, or to give the gift of art to a loved one.  Buying a 5 x 7" or so painting is a fun way to collect an artist with breaking the bank. Many artist these days paint on gallery-wrapped canvas that need no frame or on panels that look great on a small easel. I like the petite paintings because you can tuck them in unusual places, on a bookshelf, mantelpiece or desk. Smaller works are often referred to as "little jewels" or gem-like - they just seem to sparkle for their size. Some are true miniatures with tiny , fascinating details, some are more like a close-up of a slice of life. One gallery that does small works in a big way is the Randy Higbee Gallery in Costa Mesa, California where literally hundreds of 6 x 6" paintings of infinite variety of subject matter are displayed during December. What fun! I have a couple of paintings in that exhibit as well as 2 other shows. Click here for details!
