I am pleased to announce that this oil painting "Lightning Strikes" is headed to Clifton, Texas for the 32nd Annual Bosque Art Classic, a western art show judged each year by a member of the esteemed Cowboy Artists of America. This year's judge is Teal Blake, CA.

This is always a very competitive show and this year was no exception, with just 174 pieces selected out of nearly 800 entries! The opening reception is September 9th and the exhibit runs through September 23, 2017.

I haven't painted a white horse in a while and this particular horse inspired me with his confident stride and the way he held his head. He was very well-built and seemed to be in the prime of life, in possession of a great proud spirit. My favorite part of painting this was exploring colors in the shadows of the horse. White subjects are so much more than white!

What is this horse thinking? I just wonder what animals think of us humans sometimes, the way they look at you, kinda sideways, like "are for real?" I always enjoy exploring the colors of white in a painting and this time I contrasted the cool blues with a warm background, great fun.
