I am honored that his painting was selected as part of the Bold Brush Competition's FAV 15% for May 2019! I am also honored that it was accepted to the Bosque Art Classic, judged this year by master sculptor Oreland C. Joe, Sr., member of the Cowboy Artists of America.  The 34th Annual Bosque Art Classic will open with a Special Preview Dinner on Saturday, September 14, 2019. It is then open to the public September 15 - 28th,2019. New this year is online purchasing being made available after the opening weekend.

The Classic is held at the Bosque Arts Center in the tiny town of Clifton, Texas. According to the Center's website: "Considered one of the “100 Best Small Art Towns in America,” Clifton has attracted such renowned artists as the late James Boren, the late Melvin Warren, Bruce Greene, Martin Grelle, George Hallmark, Tony Eubanks and George Boutwell. Many of those artists have exhibited or taught at the Arts Center." It has become a center for performing & visual arts, recreation and educational programs - bringing the arts to a rural area.

This painting portrays a local branding where neighbors and friends congregate to help out with a big job. The horses do their job also, and like so may things we have to do in life, "step by step". Sometimes there is a certain order to a procedure and this is one of them. It's a time -honored tradition, a ritual and a celebration for the families that gather together to help each other out.

Springtime is a favorite time of year for most people. For the rancher it is too, time for new calves and brandings. At a branding, every cowboy and cowgirl has a job to do - this guy was roping calves all day long. 

This is a common sight in cattle country; calves sorted off to be weaned, brought in for a branding or rounded up for a rodeo.
